Since we are aware of the devastating consequences of climate change, citizens are gradually changing a series of habits, or at least, we are becoming aware that a change of habits is necessary to reverse the dramatic current situation.
The truth is that large industries are obviously the main causes of pollution (waste, spills, greenhouse gases, CO2 ...). But there is a large percentage of individual or personal pollution or, we can call it, walking around the house.
That percentage, that contribution that we can each make, is minimal, yes, but ... how much would the current model change if we all acted accordingly to the awareness of the reduction of pollutants? Is it possible that small habits lead to a more sustainable future? The answer is yes, the situation would change a lot. Because not only our contribution would create a space for change but that change together with many other small changes would create a trend, a trend that both society and companies would have to adapt.
Here you have a list of sustainable habits that putting them into practice, would be an almost immediate benefit to the environment.
1. Change the bulbs
If you have not yet exchanged your light bulbs for low-energy ones and continue spending and paying more light, do not wait any longer. Electricity consumption generates a lot of CO2. If you use only low-energy bulbs, you can save an emission of 45 kg of CO2 per year.
2. Use appliances with intelligence
Turn off the television or computer after using it. You will save a lot of energy. Do not put the washing machine or dishwasher halfway. The temperature of the air conditioner must not fall below 23º.
3. Drive less
Avoid taking the car as much as you can. Vehicles are a great source of pollution. We should also avoid airplanes for routes that we can use the train
It is probably the most repeated part by institutions and where we have spent the most on raising awareness. Do not forget that recycling is the last link in the chain, if we do not, we are throwing a very expensive and beneficial process
5. Avoid plastic packaging
Plastic is, in many cases, very avoidable. The tendency to wrap everything has made us even have products with 2 and 3 different packages. The big problem is that most of these containers cannot be recycled, so you have to avoid them as much as possible.
6. Use less hot water
Hot water also generates a lot of CO2 in its production. If we avoid consuming a lot of hot water, or the temperature of the hot water is reduced, not only will it be a saving for our pocket but we will contribute to emit much less CO2 into the atmosphere
7 Plant a tree
Deforestation is another major cause of global warming. It is very important to be aware of the importance of our forests and to help reforestation by planting trees.
8. Try to eat a diet based on vegetables and legumes
Meat products and fish generate a lot of CO2 during creation, production and transportation. In addition, a very high volume of water is consumed to generate meat products.
9. Start reusing
We are already seeing how A lot of products that we used to throw away after using, now, they have been replaced by others with a long service life, so we generate less materials, consume less packaging and produce less waste.
10. Requires governments
It is important to demand policies according to these thoughts and habits. It is no use changing habits if our politicians do not generate measures to promote, help and raise awareness about these issues.
The small contribution of each one can generate a drastic change in the future of the planet, and therefore in ours. It is important that in addition to raising awareness and claiming a sustainable productive model, we contribute from each one towards an eco-friendly future, because change begins in you.
